Big week for Sedgwick

It was a big week for Sedgwick athletics. Including wins by high school football, junior high football, junior high volleyball, and a second place finish form the high school volleyball team at the Goessel Tournament.

á á á á It started last Thursday in Bennington where The Jr. High Football and Volleyball teams each came out victorious. The football team was dominating early and often. The game was canceled and called off after halftime due to lighting. The lighting did not slow down eighth grade running back, Kale Schroeder. Schroeder had the all three touchdowns for the cardinals. The cardinal defense was in the Bennington backfield all night long and left their mark on the game. The final was 24-0. The Volleyball team also had a good night and improved to 2-0.
á á á ááOn Friday nightáthe Sedgwick Cardinals played the Remington Broncos. The cardinals started freshman quarterback, Hooper Schroeder. On the very first offensive play for the Broncos, Alec Tillman recovered a fumble and returned it into the end zone to jump out to the early 6-0 lead. With six minutes left in the 1st, the Broncos got on the board with a field goal. Hooper hit Kyler Summers for a touchdown with three minutes left in the 1st.Early in the second; the Broncos hit the Cardinals with a 40-yard fake punt. The fake punts led to a fifteen-yard touchdown run to narrow the gap to 13-10. On a long fourth down, Hooper Schroeder hit Summers on a short pass, but the senior worked his way all the way to a first down. That play set up a fifteen-yard touchdown run by Grant Hilliard. Later in the second, The Broncos defense made an interception that was run back for a touchdown. Grant Hilliard on the next drive came in at quarterback. He made an impact right
áaway and capped off the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run. At the start of the third, Jordan Scarlett made a field goal to push the lead to 30-17. Schroeder came back into the game and threw another touchdown giving the Cardinals a 20-point lead. The Broncos hit on a 79-yard touchdown to bring it to 37-24. After that, the Cardinals answered by getting another touchdown pass and a scoop and score by Marshall Rutschman, and the Cardinals won 51-24.
á á á á The SHS volleyball team went 2-1 in pool play on Saturday. They later went on to defeat Wichita Independent in the Semi-Final. Then, in the championship game, the Cardinals had their second shot at Goessel. The Bluebirds won 25-11 and 25-14. The Cardinals did walk away with a second place finish
